What is an encaustic monotype?

An encaustic monotype print is a one‑of‑a‑kind artwork created by painting molten beeswax and pigment onto a heated metal plate, then transferring that image onto paper through pressure. The process captures the fluid movement of wax—its translucency, texture, and spontaneous mark‑making—resulting in a print that feels both painterly and atmospheric. Because the image can only be pulled once, each monotype carries a unique blend of gesture, heat, and chance that can’t be replicated.
